NIRVANA - The true soul of Grunge Rock

"IT SURE SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT"

Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic & Dave Grohl made Nirvana one of the most successful Grunge rock bands out there. Originating from Seattle, these Grunge rockers have revolutionized the music industry in the 90s. I started listening to Nirvana ever since I was in kindergarten. My brother would always blast "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Lithium" from his stereo and I listened eagerly to it.

Nirvana's music is mainly about teenage angst, sickness, libido and self-hate. I really like Kurt's rusty voice in his songs. Try listening to "Serve the Servants" or his awesome yells in "Negative Creep". Kurt was truly had a legendary voice and singing technique. He had a tough childhood and adolescent years which is projected through his lyrics.

One of Nirvana's popular hits besides "Smells like teen spirit" is the song "Rape Me". It is actually Kurt's way of saying to MTV that they can do whatever they want to shame or restrict him and his band as they were not allowed to play "Rape Me" during their live performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. The producers were going to cut off the telecast but Kurt managed to stop and played "Lithium" instead. This is the video

Nirvana's music made me think about my life; how short it is and all the problems I have faced and will come in contact with in the future. Their music is really something unique. Among my favourites from them are:

Unfortunately in 1994, it was reported that Kurt had committed suicide at his own home. A shotgun and a suicide note were found near him. Some claimed that it was the work of his wife, Courtney Love.
